A late-1990s Omega Speedmaster Date powered by the automatic Calibre 1152 chronograph movement. Featuring a 39mm stainless steel case, black dial with applied indices, date at 3 o’clock, and tachymètre bezel, this reference offers classic Speedmaster styling in a versatile automatic format. A strong everyday chronograph with full-set appeal.
Why It’s Special
The Speedmaster Date sits just beneath the Moonwatch in Omega’s hierarchy, delivering familiar design codes in a slightly more compact and practical package. The Cal. 1152 automatic movement (based on the proven Valjoux 7750 architecture) offers dependable performance with date functionality, making it an easy daily wear. This example is presented as a full set — including inner and outer boxes, international warranty card, pictograms card, manuals, hang tags, and Omega cardholder — an increasingly important differentiator in the Australian market.
Condition
Original black dial remains clean with no visible spotting, moisture damage, or deterioration. Applied indices and printed sub-dial numerals are crisp and evenly presented. Hands appear original with intact luminous material showing even ageing. Stainless steel case shows honest surface wear throughout, including light scratches to the bezel and case flanks consistent with regular use; no deep dents and no evidence of aggressive polishing, with case lines remaining well defined. Tachymètre bezel retains clear engraving with wear consistent with age. Sapphire crystal is clean with only minor hairline marks visible under reflection. Crown and chronograph pushers appear correct and operate as intended. The crown feels slightly firm when setting the time, which is not uncommon for ETA-based chronograph movements of this era. Bracelet (ref. 1563/850) shows light stretch consistent with age, with brushing intact and clasp functioning correctly.
Performance: Recently tested on timegrapher at –20 seconds per day. Acceptable for a neo-vintage automatic chronograph and suitable for regular wear.
