Produced around 1980, this Omega Seamaster Quartz ref. 196.0116 is powered by Omega’s seven-jewel cal. 1342 and represents the brand’s confident late-1970s design language. It features a 35.5 mm stainless-steel monocoque case, original integrated Omega 2065 mesh bracelet, acrylic crystal and quickset date, offering a distinctive everyday vintage Seamaster with authentic period styling.
Why It’s Special
Rather than chasing perfection, this example embraces the qualities that make vintage watches so appealing. The original dial has developed honest ageing over decades of wear, with evidence of an old marker repair that forms part of its history while retaining its original dial printing. Combined with the integrated bracelet and sleek monocoque case, it has the kind of genuine character that simply can’t be replicated by a refinished or heavily restored example.
Condition
Vertically brushed silver dial with champagne toning, visible adhesive residue at 4 o’clock index confirming past marker repair. Dial printing intact but shows spotting and tone variation. Case exhibits moderate to heavy surface wear yet retains factory brushing and crisp seahorse medallion. Acrylic crystal clear with light scratches. Genuine mesh bracelet 2065 complete with minor stretch.
Performance: Quartz movement running correctly.
