This late-1980s Cartier Panthère Cougar LM, reference 987904C, is a 33 mm stainless-steel quartz watch presented with its original set. Its round case, exposed bezel screws, Roman-numeral dial, blued hands and integrated bracelet give the Cougar a more assertive profile than Cartier’s classic square Panthère.
Why It’s Special
The Cougar belongs to Cartier’s broader Panthère-era design language but has a character of its own: a rounded, screw-bezel case that bridges the jewellery-led Panthère bracelet watch and a more robust everyday sports-watch silhouette. The large model offers meaningful wrist presence while remaining unmistakably Cartier, and the surviving period set adds useful collecting context.
Condition
Original silvered dial remains clean with no visible spotting, moisture damage, or degradation. Roman numerals and minute track are crisp and evenly printed, with the date correctly aligned. Hands appear original and free from corrosion. Stainless steel case shows even surface wear throughout, including light scratches to the bezel and case flanks consistent with use; no deep gouges and no evidence of aggressive polishing, with geometry preserved. Bezel screws are clean with no tool damage. Sapphire crystal shows minor hairline marks only. Correct Cartier crown fitted with intact blue cabochon. Original Panthère bracelet shows moderate stretch consistent with age; all links are present and the clasp functions correctly.
